History
At Westgate Primary School all children, including SEN and disadvantaged pupils, learn the following key concepts through studying different periods of History throughout the school.
History Intent
At Westgate, we believe that history plays an essential role in children's understanding of Britain's past and how history has impacted the wider world today. History helps pupils to understand how people’s lives and societies have changed, consider how past events have changed relationships and analyse the challenges those before us have faced. Through our History curriculum, we aim to inspire pupil’s curiosity and provide the pupils with opportunities to engage in historical enquiry so they develop a well-rounded knowledge of the past and its events. We also aim to improve every student’s cultural capital in order for them to understand the world around them and their own heritage.
